Naviant President and CEO Michael Carr Named Executive of the Year by In Business Magazine
VERONA, WI, MIDDLEBURG HEIGHTS, OH, & OREM, UT – Michael Carr, the President and CEO of Naviant, was recently recognized by In Business Magazine as the Medium Company Executive of the Year for 2021. Just over a year after his promotion from CFO to President and CEO of Naviant, Carr was selected for his outstanding dedication to pushing Naviant to focus on its strategic growth markets, as well as his open communication style that has kept the company focused and engaged.
Guided by an 80-20 focus, Carr has played a critical role in developing and driving profitable initiatives that have helped Naviant achieve its vision of doubling the size of its revenue every six years. One of his first significant achievements as President and CEO of Naviant was selling Naviant’s Physical Records Division to Iron Mountain Inc, which allowed Naviant to focus on its strategic growth markets, Software, Business Process Consulting and Implementation Services. He then also facilitated the acquisition of Doxtek, a similar value-added reseller based in Utah. As a result, Naviant expanded its headcount by 25%, expanded its product offerings to include new emerging technologies, and improve revenues through an increased customer base with a larger national and international presence. Carr also moved Naviant’s technology to the cloud, a move which proved invaluable when COVID-19 arrived shortly after.
Carr’s leadership also extends to his proactive dedication to investing in his community and Naviant’s diversity and inclusion efforts. Naviant recently launched a partnership with the Boys and Girls Clubs of Dane County to involve young people of color in the local community to in-demand technology jobs. Carr committed to this mission through supporting internships, a virtual mentorship program, and other learning experiences to prepare students for the workforce. Tricia Shields, Director of Human Resources at Naviant, says, “He recognizes the importance of having a diverse team with differing ideas that can work cohesively together to benefit the company as a whole. He encourages an environment of accountability and support of every individual.”
In addition to his strategic initiatives, Carr has received high praise from Naviant employees for his open communication style and for prioritizing his individual employees’ input. Ema Roloff, Senior Sales Executive at Naviant, says,“Mike is genuinely interested in new ideas and different opinions. Throughout my time at Naviant, I have seen him actively seek out different ways of thinking to help ensure that we stay true to our culture, communicating freely, and constantly striving to exceed expectations.”
Early on in COVID-19, Carr began sending biweekly emails to all Naviant employees sharing company updates, team achievement shout-outs, and personal stories about how he and his wife were facing the pandemic. The email update series became a valuable tool for employee engagement, spreading comfort and support through uncertain times, and fostering Naviant’s culture of growth and change. Employees later asked Carr to continue his updates long-term. Carr also found a way to remain connected to customers amid the pandemic by inviting them to regular “Coffee with Carr” meetings.
Michael Carr was featured in the January 2021 issue of In Business Magazine. Additionally, videos of Carr and the other distinguished recipients of In Business’ Executive of the Year Award will be posted online at IBMadison.com.

MADISON, Wisc., Jan. 4, 2021 /PRNewswire/ — Milwaukee native Damon Baker has just been named an In Business 2021 Executive of the Year. The awards program recognizes exemplary business executives based on leadership, innovation, and company success. And, in a year rife with economic challenges, it was Damon’s innovative leadership and challenger thinking that enabled his company, Lean Focus®—a Madison-based consulting, training, and talent solutions firm—to not only meet their growth projections for 2020, but exceed them.
“Like many companies, the pandemic has had a significant impact on our ability to execute our plans,” said Damon. “But that didn’t stop us from helping our clients transform their businesses—in fact, it inspired us to reimagine the way we deliver our services to the markets we serve. Our team worked diligently to develop virtual offerings such as remote consulting and learning, as well as expand into new service areas that reduced our reliance on the traditional in-person consulting model. Lean Focus’s clientele represents a “who’s who” of global leaders in every industry, including some of the world’s most respected brands and several members of the Fortune 1000. And sacrifice value they did not—under Damon’s leadership, Lean Focus’s clients were able to adapt to this new economic landscape without missing a beat.
But while this past year was unique in the challenges it presented, Damon says their tried-and-true methodology remained the same: the Lean Focus Business System™. Applied by Lean Focus’s team of senior-level practitioners, the system utilizes 5 Key Elements to build the lasting organizational and cultural infrastructure it takes to overcome their client’s biggest challenges, and transform their business for good.

Fitchburg, WI – Oak Bank is honored to announce it has once again been named as an In Business magazine Executive Choice Award finalist in the banking for business category.
Area business leaders identify organizations they feel excel in their industry in 37 business-related categories, which means companies have achieved top-of-mind awareness in the business community to be named as Executive Choice Award recipients.
“We are honored to be recognized as an industry leader by the business community that we serve,” said Terry Taylor, Oak Bank President. “Our people make this recognition possible. Our associates work tirelessly with enthusiasm and integrity to create a great experience with each client interaction. This recognition is particularly special this year. Oak Bank started 2020 off with a celebration of 20 years in business. The focus of the year pivoted quickly as COVID-19 took aim at partner businesses.

COVID-19 put that in jeopardy. All of us here were proud to find the path to PPP (Paycheck Protection Program) loans to provide our partner businesses the much-needed support.”
