One Community Bank Hosts Annual Free Community Event: Badger Tailgate

(December 2023) – One Community Bank is proud to serve our clients, support our colleagues and invest in our communities. OCB held its third Annual Badger Tailgate at its Waunakee location on Saturday, October 21. There was an excellent turn out of clients, community members, and colleagues.

“I am thrilled to be able to host the Annual Badger Tailgate again this year. I am passionate about bringing the community together and making a difference with the money raised. Thank you to all of our sponsors who help make this event possible,” said Chris Zellner, Market President at One Community Bank Waunakee.

This family friendly event featured free fresh grilled food, grilled by Todd Schmidt – Waunakee Village Administrator, Brendan Flanagan – AVP Bank Manager, and Brian O’Handley – SVP Head of Mortgage and Consumer Lending. Bucky Badger and the UW-Madison Alumni Band kicked off the event with Badger pride. The first 100 guests received a complimentary Badger shirt from OCB. Door Prizes from Sundara Spa, Chula Vista, Pinseekers, The University Book Store, and Meffert Car Wash were given away.

Additionally, free beverages were provided by Octopi Brewing. The game was enjoyed on a jumbotron provided by Bishops Bay. And kids enjoyed painting pumpkins.

This event raised money for the Waunakee School District Student Financial Assistance Fund and The Schumacher Farm Educational Barn Project. This year One Community Bank donated $500 to each organization, the community raised $300, and Waunakee Remodeling donated $500 to the Waunakee School District Student Financial Assistance Fund.

The Student Financial Assistance Fund ensures that all students and families can participate in their school communities regardless of a family’s financial situation and ability to pay.

The Schumacher Farm Educational Barn Project raised funds for a new building on the farm. The Schumacher Farm Park offers a variety of events and workshops for all ages.

One Community Bank remains committed to investing in our communities and is proud to support these Feel Good organizations.

STRING QUARTET WITH MISSION TO REINVIGORATE CHAMBER MUSIC MAKES MADISON DEBUT AT WISCONSIN UNION THEATER’S SHANNON HALL DEC. 8

MADISON – The Isidore String Quartet — and its mission to reinvigorate chamber music repertoire with new approaches to classical music and an embrace of contemporary classical music — comes to Shannon Hall in Madison on Dec. 8 from 7:30-9:30 p.m.

Appearing as part of the Wisconsin Union Theater’s (WUT’s) Classical Series, formerly called the Concert Series, the ensemble will perform:

  • String Quartet No. 2, “Awakening” composed by Billy Childs in 2012
  • String Quartet No. 19 in C Major, K. 465, “Dissonance” composed by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart in the 1700s
  • String Quartet in A Minor, Op. 51, No. 2 composed by Johannes Brahms in 1873

The quartet’s foundational mission — to revisit, rediscover and reinvigorate chamber music repertory — continually guides its program choices and the ensemble’s life’s work.

The artists embodying this mission in the quartet include violinists Adrian Steele and Phoenix Avalon, violist Devin Moore and cellist Joshua McClendon.

Moore describes the artists as having clicked immediately, with three having met while performing together at a music festival and the fourth person having joined the ensemble after meeting the existing trio at the Juilliard School.

The quartet named its ensemble in part as a tribute to Isidore Cohen, a former second violinist in the Juilliard String Quartet, and in part for a Russian Orthodox monk, named Isidore, whom history often credits with the creation of Russian vodka.

“We like to do weird repertoire and do weird performances, things that are maybe unorthodox or experimental,” Moore said in an interview with the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity. “We like to invite our audiences on stage sometimes to walk around or come up close to us or sit and lie down on the ground, just trying to break out of some of the constraints that we’ve put in a place as an industry, to open up people’s minds, to like a freer expression and consumption of art, which I think is, in turn, affecting how people exist in their day-to-day lives.”

This performance is presented by WUT and the student-led Wisconsin Union Directorate (WUD) Performing Arts Committee (PAC). It is part of the David and Kato Perlman Chamber Music Series and is made possible by the David and Kato Perlman Chamber Music Fund.

Patrons can save 20% on WUT season events through the build-your-own subscription, with options of three to five events for 15% off or six or more events for a 20% discount.

Other upcoming WUT season events include international music, jazz and chamber music.

Theater-goers can purchase tickets to the Isidore String Quartet performance and other WUT season events online, at the Memorial Union Box Office or by phone at (608) 265-2787.

Dane Buy Local Kicks Off Holiday Shopping Season

Madison, WI – Dane Buy Local Executive Director Paula Severson and Dane County Executive Joe Parisi will join other local business leaders for a press conference on Tuesday, November 21 at 11:00 a.m. at Oakstone Recreational, 304 Commerce Parkway in Cottage Grove. The event will highlight Dane Buy Local’s Holiday Passport campaign, Small Business Saturday, and the importance of sustaining local business for a vibrant, economically strong community.

“This holiday season, we encourage everyone to support our local businesses by participating in such events as Small Business Saturday and Shop Indie Local,” says Dane County Executive Joe Parisi. “Our small businesses help define Dane County’s culture, and everyone’s support keeps our community vibrant and local economy healthy.”

A 2022 local study done by Civic Economics showed that Dane County independent businesses recirculated 60.7% of revenue back into the local economy versus 30.4% from national chains. The study estimated that a market shift of 10% from chains to independents would retain an estimated $173 million in the local economy.

“Imagine what a 10% shift means for our neighborhoods, schools, and more,” says Severson. “While the campaign is focused on shopping local for the holidays, we also want people to think about choosing local in all of their purchasing decisions. This will have a positive ripple effect in our local economy.”

Dane Buy Local’s Holiday Passport campaign includes over 180 Dane County business participants. When someone spends $10 or more at a local business, they email their receipt to Dane Buy Local to be entered into a drawing. Over 70 gift cards, valued at $25 each, will be given away through December 17, and the campaign is made possible by Bank of Sun Prairie.

“Bank of Sun Prairie is proud to be a presenting sponsor for the Dane Buy Local Holiday Passport and Shop Local Celebration for the fourth year,” says Chief Retail Officer John Loeffler. “We encourage you to support local, independent businesses. They’re the lifeblood of our communities. They support our local events, nonprofits, school fundraisers and provide services vital to our everyday life.” Loeffler continues, “As Bank of Sun Prairie, a locally owned, independent community bank, celebrates the holiday season with our customers and communities, we are thrilled to do our part supporting this vital campaign at such an important time of year.”
