Transportation Law Attorney Jason E. Engkjer Joins DeWitt LLP

MADISON | MILWAUKEE | MINNEAPOLIS – Today DeWitt LLP announced attorney Jason E. Engkjer has joined the firm’s Minneapolis office as a member of its growing Transportation & Logistics Practice Group.

Engkjer’s practice is primarily devoted to corporate planning, transactions and complex commercial litigation with a unique focus in transportation and supply chain law. He represents a diverse array of clients ranging from small, closely held companies to multi-national organizations on a nationwide basis, but primarily in the upper Midwest.

Engkjer is active with the Minnesota Trucking Association, North Dakota Motor Carrier Association, Transportation Lawyer’s Association and is a member of the Conference of Freight Counsel. He is a current board member and general counsel for Farm Rescue and Farm Rescue Foundation.   He is a former board member and general counsel for the Epilepsy Foundation of Minnesota and continues to actively support the organization. He regularly provides volunteer pro bono legal services through a variety of organizations and is a former ethics investigator for Hennepin County’s Fourth District Ethics Committee. Jason has also been listed as a Rising Star by Minnesota Super Lawyers.

He earned a J.D., from William Mitchell College of Law and a B.S. from the University of Kansas.  He is admitted to practice in Minnesota and North Dakota state courts, as well as Minnesota, Wisconsin and North Dakota federal courts.

Homeister, Janquart Receive Promotions at Capitol Bank

Madison, WI: Ken Thompson, President and CEO of Capitol Bank, announced the promotions of Brenda Homeister to Assistant Vice President of Loan Documentation and Paige Janquart to Controller.

Brenda joined Capitol Bank in 2016, with experience in all areas of loan operations and credit administration. Her work in handling complex loan transactions and PPP loan documentation continues to be impactful to employees and customers.

Paige’s work has been vital to the financial operations of Capitol Bank and Capitol Bankshares, Inc. since 2014. Her impact and improvements have been recognized by the Bank’s employees and shareholders.

DeWitt Appoints Practice Group Chairs to its Intellectual Property Litigation Practice Group

MADISON | MILWAUKEE | MINNEAPOLIS – Today DeWitt announced the appointment of partners Eric Chadwick, Joseph Miotke and Harry Van Camp as Co-chairs of its Intellectual Property (IP) Litigation Practice Group. 

The Co-chairs practice from DeWitt’s Minneapolis, Metro-Milwaukee, and Madison offices and the members of the IP Litigation Group represent clients nationally.

About Chadwick:

Chadwick, who is in the firm’s Minneapolis office, represents clients in various technology and commercial disputes throughout the U.S.  He works with his clients to achieve goal-oriented litigation.  Chadwick has taken ten cases to verdict, in matters ranging from life-saving medical devices to farming technology.  ​His IP litigation focus includes copyrights, IT software, licensing and technology transfers, medical devices, patents, trade secrets, trademarks.  Chadwick earned a J.D., ​cum laude, ​from William Mitchell College of Law and a B.S. in Industrial Engineering from Iowa State University.  He is a member of the American Intellectual Property Law Association, the Minnesota Intellectual Property Law Association, and the Minnesota State Bar Association.

For more than twenty years Miotke, who is in DeWitt’s Metro-Milwaukee office, has distinguished himself as a leading IP litigator, patent attorney, and IP strategist.  Recognized by leading IP publications as among the top patent attorneys and IP attorneys in the United States, he has worked across a wide spectrum of patent, trade secret, copyright, and trademark matters involving technologies ranging from artificial intelligence and machine learning to energy production and hydraulic fracturing.  Miotke speaks across North America and publishes frequently on IP-related matters. He has extensive experience with patent and other IP Litigation as well as with IP transactional and strategy matters including IP monetization. After receiving a favorable jury verdict, he was greeted in chambers by a judge who said, “Well, here comes the magician!”  His litigation focus includes patents, copyrights, trademarks, computer software, trade secrets, major business disputes, and environmental litigation.  Van Camp earned a J.D. from the University of Oklahoma City and a B.A. from the University of Denver and also attended the University of Oslo – Norway.  He is a member of the American Bar Association, State Bar of Wisconsin, , Oklahoma Bar Association, and DeWitt’s Executive Committee.  In addition, Van Camp was a Co-founder of BOS (Business Owner Solutions) an organization of business owners and professionals formed to support small business entrepreneurs.

DeWitt’s Heather L. Kierzek Admitted to Practice in Illinois

DeWitt’s Heather L. Kierzek Admitted to Practice in Illinois

MADISON | MILWAUKEE | MINNEAPOLIS – Today DeWitt LLP announced associate Heather L.  Kierzek was admitted to practice law in Illinois on January 14, 2021 during a swearing in ceremony with Supreme Court Justice Rita B. Garman presiding.  Kierzek is the newest member of DeWitt’s growing Intellectual Property group.

Kierzek is an attorney who earned her Juris Doctor from University of Illinois – Chicago John Marshall Law School and a B.S. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Marquette University. She began as a summer associate at DeWitt during the summer of 2019.  She drafts patent applications and responses to the USPTO office actions for patent and trademark applications.  She also conducts legal research for patent, copyright, and trademark litigation.

Prior to joining DeWitt, Kierzek gained valuable experience as an Electrical Engineer with a worldwide leader in thermal management where she specified components and designed control panels including component placement and wire routing configurations for commercial-sized heating, ventilation, and air conditioning units.  Additionally, she managed and maintained a wiring diagram software for current and new product development.  Further, she researched and compiled a condensed 46-page customized technical electrical standard for department-wide use and researched components for alternative solutions while maintaining product quality​.

While working as a Powertrain Electronics and Controls Engineering Intern with an internationally recognized truck and diesel engine manufacturer, Kierzek developed and validated controls software for diesel engine emissions aftertreatment system to meet government EPA emissions standards, a tri-state input signal processing system for various circuit configurations, exhaust gas temperature monitor to protect diesel engine from overheating, and created a system design proposal and validation requirements for diesel engine intake air heater controls.
